Ruben Amorim Liverpool’s Second-Choice Manager Behind Alonso

Ruben Amorim Liverpool's Second-Choice Manager Behind Alonso

This summer, Liverpool is looking for a new manager to take over for Jurgen Klopp. Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim is their second option, ahead of Roberto De Zerbi of Brighton & Hove Albion.

Before the 2024–2025 season, the Reds will be examining a wide range of possibilities for the German manager’s replacement. Klopp has given them ample time to compile a shortlist after letting the team know about his choice earlier in the season. Amorim, De Zerbi, and Xabi Alonso are three names that are closely associated with the soon-to-be open post.

Fabrizio Romano Provides Amorim Update

The Times claims that the Merseyside team may recruit Alonso, Amorim, or De Zerbi to succeed Klopp this summer. Giving an update on the management situation, Italian writer Romano said on the Men in Blazers podcast that Amorim is a strong contender for the Liverpool position and that they should view him as a backup.

“Ruben Amorim is a concrete candidate for the Liverpool job. I think he is in position number two at this moment from what I’m told. He also has a release clause in his new contract at Sporting. It is difficult to negotiate with Portuguese clubs, especially for special people like Ruben Amorim, but for sure the interest from Liverpool is there. I think Amorim is in position number two, he is a candidate for the Liverpool job at this moment more than Roberto De Zerbi.”

Given that sources have confirmed to COODEDNEWS that Liverpool is planning an offer to entice Alonso away from Bayer Leverkusen, he is most certainly the Reds’ first choice. It won’t be an easy appointment at Anfield, as the Bundesliga team Bayern Munich is expected to present some fierce opposition for the Merseyside team. Consequently, Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes will need a list of substitute choices.
