Alisson Becker, who took a prolonged summer holiday, has finally resumed training with Liverpool.
The goalkeeper returns to the AXA Training Centre as the last player in the Reds’ current roster. A video of the Brazilian being welcomed by Mohamed Salah was posted by Liverpool’s social media page on Friday morning, just before he was set to meet new head coach Arne Slot.
Liverpool granted Alisson an extended rest, and he returned to training over a week after his South American colleagues, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, and Alexis Mac Allister, who all left the Copa America before him.
The 31-year-old started all four of Brazil’s matches while they were in the United States, but he was powerless to stop them from losing to Nunez’s Uruguay on penalties in the quarterfinals.
Alisson has been spending time with his family since that elimination at the beginning of July. Throughout the previous few weeks, Liverpool’s top player has been seen enjoying his vacation in Instagram posts from his wife Natalia.
Alisson’s first vacation was to Portugal to celebrate his niece’s birthday. After that, he went back to Rio Grande do Sul, his native Brazil, to unwind with his family.
Alisson was observed spending his vacation time riding horses with his son and going fishing with his wife and two kids.
Following the resignation of Jurgen Klopp, who signed the Brazilian when he first arrived at Liverpool in 2018, the player will now return to Merseyside and meet with his new club coach. When the Reds play their final preseason games at Anfield against Sevilla and Las Palmas on Sunday—the second of which is played behind closed doors—Alisson might make his return.
Alisson’s return is welcome, and maybe he’ll quickly get back into the swing of things in one of the two games on Sunday. Hopefully, the longer hiatus has helped him recover from the numerous injuries he sustained during the previous season.
Caoimhin Kelleher may also find significance in his return. Although the Irishman has been linked to a transfer away from Anfield in an attempt to secure a starting position elsewhere, he has proven indispensable during Alisson’s absence this summer. Now that the Brazilian is returned, he may decide how to go; ideally, he will decide to stay in this place.
