Last season, the Green Bay Packers turned from a 2-5 team to a team that almost beat the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round of the playoffs, surprising some people along the way.
After spending time with the Packers throughout training camp, NFL insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated believes that quarterback Jordan Love, who inked a four-year, $220 million contract this summer, will only improve on what he accomplished in his first season as Green Bay’s full-time starter.
Love had a 62.1 adjusted QBR at the end of the 2023 regular season, which placed him ninth among qualified players in the NFL. He also had a 96.1 passer rating, 32 passing touchdowns, 7,159 yards through the air, and a 47.6% passing success rate.
Love isn’t the only notable offensive talent from Green Bay who is making an impression during summer practices, Breer said.
“The young receiver group is exciting, and the guy who might be taking the biggest step forward is third-year man Romeo Doubs,” Breer stated. “The intensity with which he runs routes and passes the ball demonstrates his confidence and understanding of the offense. Additionally, it serves as an illustration of how Dontayvion Wicks, Jayden Reed, and Christian Watson—a trio of young receivers—are contending.”
According to ESPN statistics, Doubs finished Week 18 of the 2018 season tied for the team lead with eight touchdown catches, first with 96 targets, second with 674 receiving yards, and second among Packers players with 59 receptions.
The Packers were ranked sixth among the betting favorites at +800 odds to represent the NFC in Super Bowl LIX as of Friday morning, according to DraftKings Sportsbook. Love could be able to accomplish more than just play on the penultimate Sunday of the next postseason tournament if he makes the kind of breakthrough that many anticipate from him this winter.
