Following an update on Liverpool’s pursuit of Real Sociedad striker Martin Zubimendi, fans have gone completely crazy.
It was claimed earlier this week that Liverpool’s main goal in trying to expand Arne Slot’s midfield options is Zubimendi.
The 25-year-old, who played for Spain in the squad that won Euro 2024, is rumored to have a £51 million release clause in his Sociedad contract.
Zubimendi was linked to Manchester United, Arsenal, and Barcelona before joining Liverpool.
According to reports on Thursday, Zubimendi was considering staying put despite Sociedad’s persistent efforts to persuade him otherwise.
Heavens Florian Plettenberg of Germany wrote: “Talks are still ongoing as FC Liverpool pushes to sign Martin #Zubimendi.”
“A 25-year-old midfielder is eager to start playing for #LFC right now. His management company, “Idub Global,” has the best ties to Liverpool because they also oversee Xavi Alonso. With @kerry_hau. It’s unclear if free discussions are conceivable or if Liverpool must pay the €60 million release clause.
Plettenberg’s Friday morning post of a Spanish flag and a tick emoji had Liverpool fans in a frenzy.
One admirer responded on social media, asking, “What does this even mean?”
What does this mean? asked another tweeter. Either I stay in Spain or I receive your earlier message.
“SAY SOMETHING,” one additional fan said.
Another person commented, “Is this for real? Don’t do that to me?”
“Don’t play with my emotions Plettenberg,” remarked the fifth person.
Another admirer said, “It’s cryptic enough to be interpreted both ways, but a tick above a tweet where he suggests he’s off to Liverpool suggests he’s off to Liverpool.”
With Slot taking over as manager after Jurgen Klopp was fired in the summer, Liverpool is currently preparing for their inaugural campaign.
Next weekend, the Reds will play their first game of the 24/25 Premier League season against Ipswich Town, after playing Sevilla and Las Palmas.
